What is IELTS Reading ?
IELTS Reading tests a variety of reading skills, and although the question formats are the same, the text styles are different for Academic and General Training.
The IELTS Reading test requires you to answer 40 questions in 60 minutes, so you must be fully prepared before you book your exam. These include reading for gist, reading for main ideas, reading for detail, skimming, understanding logical argument and recognising writers’ opinions, attitudes and purpose.
The Academic and General Training Reading Tests are graded to the same level. However, because the texts in the Academic Reading Test are more challenging overall than those in the General Training Test, more questions need to be answered correctly on a General Training Test to receive the same grade.
